It's been awhile since I've written a post but I feel the need to write about something I've become very passionate about since I've been working in the electrical and Telecom sector for over 20 years.
I love what I do but unfortunately I have developed sensitivity to electrical and magnetic fields which prompted me several years ago to start investigating and educating myself on the causes and solutions to electromagnetic sensitivity.
Since then I started N.E.I. Electrical & EMF Consultation. Initially I started out by clearing the electrical and magnetic fields around my house. First and foremost I turned off the Wi-Fi feature on my router. I noticed that it was causing me migraines and anxiety when I was near it which was most of the time when watching TV. After turning off the Wi-Fi feature, I hardwired my TV and my computer to my router using an ethernet Cat-5 cable.
The next thing I did was check all my wiring in the house. I discovered that my dimmer switches were giving off large magnetic fields so I got rid of my dimmers and replaced them with ordinary switches. I also got rid of my LED and compact fluorescent bulbs and went back to the old style Edison bulbs, this further reduced the magnetic and electrical fields plus the lighting is nicer and easier on the eyes.
After further investigation I also found some wiring errors that must have been done when the house was built so I took care of that as well. This seems to be a common problem because when I perform inspections in other people's homes and small businesses I encounter similar issues. One of the biggest wiring errors that is initially done by electricians has to do with the neutral wires. Unfortunately electricians are not trained when it comes to EMF. When a hot or live wire and a neutral wire run parallel to each other they typically cancel out the electrical and magnetic fields. Unfortunately this is not the case in some circuits if wired incorrectly, the neutrals are shared between two or three different circuits which further intensifies the EMF’s that are created.
When I perform my inspections this is one of the first things I look for and correct. I also check the gas and water pipes to ensure no stray currents are entering the house from outside, I have encountered this issue several times in and around the Toronto area.
At night I turn off certain circuits that are not essential, I have done this by installing a remote cut-off switch, this can be done with a timer as well. The wiring that runs through my wall behind my headboard when I'm sleeping has no Voltage while I'm sleeping. Even if a certain appliance or electrical device or table lamp or whatever is plugged in is off, there is still voltage going through it’s wiring causing EMF’s. Low voltage transformers like cell phone chargers are especially known for this. Alarm clocks give off large EMF’s as well. I use my cell phone’s alarm system to wake up, even though I have my cell phone on Airplane Mode at night to further reduce EMF’s, the alarm feature still works fine. This is why I decided to shut off certain circuits through the night that are not required, my sleep quality is definitely a lot better for it.
Last but not least is the dreaded Hydro Meter. The old style analog meters were much better, these newer style digital meters give off intermittent microwave signals. I installed a mesh cover over mine to drastically reduce the EMF’s.
